Abstract: A total of 453 species of lichens belonging to 134 genera and 47 families have been reported so far from the state of Manipur. The highest number of taxa is recorded in the family Parmeliaceae (83 spp.) followed by Graphidaceae (54 spp.). The two genera Pyrenula Ach. and Graphis Adans. consist of the highest number of species (24 spp. each). The present study provides a checklist of lichens of the state which will be very helpful for further research and formulating conservation strategies.
Key Words: Conservation, lichen diversity, Pollution indicator, Secondary metabolites.
